Celebrating Menopause
Menopause is a universal experience for women, yet it often remains unspoken until adulthood. Menopause is not typically part of school curricula, and it is seldom discussed in the media. Unfortunately, menopause is often associated with negative connotations, viewed as a disease or a stroke of bad luck. In some societies, women's value is perceived to diminish as they approach menopause due to their reduced capacity for procreation. Healthcare providers may also approach menopause primarily as a condition to be managed, focusing on its associated symptoms.
However, society has not fully embraced the concept of menopause as a period of liberation and freedom. People may be hesitant to acknowledge that menopause does not necessarily entail suffering or symptoms for many women. Moreover, society may not readily accept that some women find happiness in reaching a stage where procreation is no longer a concern, and as they transition into the empty nest phase, they experience a sense of liberation.
Nevertheless, for some women, menopause can indeed be a challenging period where they may require the assistance of a therapist to address issues and navigate this phase effectively.
